WORKSHOPS

Yoga – Start your day with a sun salutation, invigorating postures and mindful mediation.  Mats provided, all levels welcome!  All 5 yoga sessions count as one workshop.

Encaustic Essentials – Whether you are new to encaustic and need to learn how to apply, heat and fuse, need a refresher or you aspire to teach the medium to others, this workshop will cover the essential information necessary to set up a safe studio and get started.

Body Casting - Using plaster, plaster gauze and skin wax we will make molds of our faces, hands in preparation for sculptural works.

Collaboration - Working creatively with another artist can propel us out of our comfort zone, stimulating new ideas and ways of working we would not arrive at by working alone. Come collaborate, lose control and be open to unexpected possibilities!

Constructions - The focus of this workshop will be to diverge from the square and rectangle. By assembling, nailing, screwing, hinging and gluing together wood forms students will combine shapes and encaustic paints to break out of the box and jump off the wall.

Cracking into the Gallery Scene - So you want gallery representation but you don’t know where to begin…  Which gallery?  Where?  How?  What if they say “no”?  This session will offer a methodical game plan and a way to approach a gallerist with dignity.

Encaustic & Wax Resist
 - Learn my “trade secrets” of incorporating wax markings, gestural strokes, stamping, folding, batik and resist dyeing to achieve dynamic results that are uniquely your own.

Joint Compound & Texture - Applied to a support panel joint compound can spread, stamped, troweled, drawn into and reworked to create a relief surface that's absorbent and thirsty for encaustic wax.

Leaf Stencils & Organic Materials - Nature lover’s, this is for you!  Use fresh leaves to create stencils and embed organic materials, beach combings and found natural matter into your wax.

Mold Making – Use clay and plaster to make one and two part molds that can be used to create wax multiples.

Transfers & Drawing on Wax – Use your own art or borrowed images to transfer onto wax and discover ways to “draw” onto your encaustic surfaces.

Transparencies, Layers & See Throughs
– If you love that see through look, luminosity and luscious layers, this intensive is for you.
